Baltimore Gas & Electric (BGE) reported the second-lowest rate of power interruptions experienced by customers in its history in 2021.
The average number of interruptions experienced by customers last year was 0.68, compared to 2017’s all-time low of 0.63. Since 2010, electric outages have decreased 45 percent, and outage length has been reduced by 52 minutes, or 37 percent.
“At BGE, we are laser-focused on improving our strong foundation of reliable and safe energy service for our customers in central Maryland,” BGE Chief Operating Officer Derrick Dickens said. “As we continue on our Path to Clean journey, the investments we make to power a cleaner and brighter future will also pay off in a more robust energy delivery system.”
The key to the company’s success has been investments it has made to upgrade its infrastructure. Since 2014, BGE has invested $13.8 billion in improving its gas and electric systems. In 2021 alone, it invested nearly $1.2 billion in infrastructure improvements and operations and maintenance of the company’s electric system.
BGE, headquartered in Baltimore, serves more than 1.3 million electric customers and 680,000 natural gas customers in central Maryland. It is a subsidiary of Exelon Corp.
